Manage Disk Quotas

Manage Disk Quotas

Administrators can limit the amount of disk space used by Expo sites on the system. If server space is limited at your institution, setting disk quotas can ensure that students and faculty members can use Expo without over-extending your storage space.

File Upload Settings

  1. Navigate to the System Admin tab.
  2. Select the Manage Expo LX link.
  3. Select the Manage Disk Quotas link.
  4. Specify the Maximum File Upload Size (in megabytes) in the field of any files that are uploaded to the system.

Administrators can limit the size of files that are uploaded to the blogs and wikis. This limit applies to uploaded documents and embedded images in any blog or wiki in an Expo site.

10 MB is the default maximum file upload size in the system. This value can be increased or decreased by the administrator, but only integers can be entered in this field. To remove any limits on file upload size, enter a "0" in this field.

Disk Quota Settings

  1. Set the maximum size for all content in each user's Expo site in the Maximum Expo Site Size field.

Maximum Expo Site Size

Administrators can limit the amount of disk space used by each Expo LX user. The default maximum Expo site size is 10 MB. This quota applies to all blogs, wikis, and profile content added by the user in their Expo site. This value can be increased or decreased by the administrator, but only integers can be entered in this field. To remove any limits on disk space usage, enter a "0" in this field.

Note that this value is separate from the maximum file upload size. If no disk quotas are specified, the size of upload files will still be limited if a maximum file upload size is specified.

Exceptions

Administrators can specify system users who should be exempt from disk quotas. To ignore disk quotas for specific users, do the following:

  1. Select the Ignore Disk Quota for Selected Users checkbox.
  2. Click the Add User button.
  3. In the subsequent form, enter the username for the user who should be exempt from the quotas.
  4. Click the Submit button.
  5. Continue adding exempt users by repeating steps 2 through 4 above.
  6. When all users are added, click the Submit button the Manage Disk Quotas form.

To enforce disk quotas for a user that was previously exempt from quotas:

  1. Select the checkbox to the left of that user's name on the Manage Disk Quotas form.
Note: Multiple users can be selected if more than one user's exemption should be revoked.
  2. Click the Remove User button.
  3. Click the Submit button for the Manage Disk Quotas form.
